The Pulpit and Purity: Living a Life Above Reproach

1 Timothy 3 describes the noble task of overseer. In addition to being a gifted teacher and communicator of the word, the overseer must also demonstrate a life that is marked by personal holiness. This year at The Expositors Summit we will seek to revisit this command for pastors to live a life that is above reproach to the glory of God and the benefit of the church.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. – Matthew 5:8

The Mortification of the Pastor

This breakout will consider the pastor’s care of himself specifically as it relates to his own sanctification. The ‘mortification of the pastor’ has in view the pastor’s war on his own indwelling sin even as he leads his congregation toward maturity in Christ.

David Prince

Keeping it Real: Pastoring as a Christian First

This breakout will focus on practical strategies for pastors to maintain a passion for shepherding and personal holiness while avoiding emptiness & burn out.

Kevin Smith

The Preacher & The Bible: All of It, All of Him

This breakout will examine the interaction between a pastor’s engagement with scripture and its affect on his ministry, particularly preaching.

Hershael York

Pastoral Leadership through Marital Joy

Other than the Bible itself, nothing affects a pastor’s credibility more than his marriage. This breakout session will explain the dynamic forces at work in the pulpit, the pew, and the pastor’s home and how to foster a marriage that maximizes leadership and glorifies Christ.

Join Dr. Hershael York at the Expositors Summit Pre-Conference, October 28th, as he teaches on Pastoral Ministry. The Pre-Conference will be held inside Heritage Hall on the campus of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. We hope you can join us for this exciting event along with this year’s Expositors Summit!

Worship will be led by Norton Hall Band.

Norton Hall Band is a tangible demonstration that our goal and purpose in the Billy Graham School at Southern Seminary is to train pastors who lead worship, not simply musicians or worship leaders. Each member of Norton Hall Band has a pastor’s heart and a desire to promote Christ-centered, biblically guided worship. The band’s purpose is to lead in worship that centers around the gospel and is birthed out of the Word of God. To listen to Norton Hall Band, click here.
