The 2017 Southeast Region ETS meeting will be hosted by The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. The theme is “Work, Vocation, and Human Flourishing in the Christian Tradition,” featuring Dr. Gene Veith, Professor of Literature at Patrick Henry College, as the plenary speaker.

Plenary Speaker

Dr. Gene Edward Veith Jr. is a noted expert on the topic of vocation. He is the author of 20 books on topics involving Christianity and culture, classical education, literature, the arts, as well as vocation. Some of his books include God at Work: Your Christian Vocation in All of LifeFamily Vocation: God’s Calling in Marriage, Parenting, and ChildhoodThe Spirituality of the Cross: The Way of the First Evangelicals; Reading Between the Lines: a Christian Guide to Literature; Christianity and Culture: Loving God with All Your Mind; and Postmodern Times: A Christian Guide to Contemporary Thought and Culture.

He serves as Provost, Emeritus and Professor of Literature, Emeritus, at Patrick Henry College. He was formerly the Culture Editor of World Magazine and was on faculty for 19 years as Professor of English at Concordia University, Wisconsin. In addition he also serves as the director of the Cranach Institute at Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Session Proposals

ETS members may propose an entire session for consideration (email:ets17@sbts.edu). Sessions should be grouped around a common theme and may be comprised of three or four papers.

Session proposals should include each of the papers to be considered and be submitted by one ETS member who will serve as the point of contact.

Student Paper Contest

Cash prizes will be awarded to the three best student papers as determined by an ETS awards committee comprised of faculty from various disciplines. To be considered for the awards, approved student papers must be submitted in their entirety in PDF form to ets17@sbts.edu by March 1st, 2017.

Paper Submissions

Full members of ETS, as well as Ph.D. and Th.M. students, please submit a one to two paragraph (approximately 200 words) abstract by email to ets17@sbts.edu by December 31, 2016.

M.Div., M.A., and B.A./B.S. students must submit their entire paper along with a written endorsement by a professor who has read the paper in order to be considered. Please submit the paper in PDF form to ets17@sbts.edu by December 31, 2016.

Please include name, institution, and contact information on each proposal. Up to two proposals may be submitted.

Submissions will be evaluated by a committee comprised of SBTS and Boyce College faculty. Notification of acceptance or denial will be made via email by January 31, 2017.

EPS

The Southeast Region of the Evangelical Philosophical Society will conduct its 15th annual meeting in conjunction with the regional meeting of ETS.

To submit a paper for consideration, send philosophy paper proposals/abstracts by February 1st, 2017 to program chair, Brendon Helms at helms.brendon@gmail.com. All submissions must include an abstract (300 words maximum) that describe the main argument of the papaer (and include your name, institution, and paper title).

Some priority is given to EPS members. To join EPS, go to www.epsociety.org.

Conference presenters must be registered for the ETS/EPS conference. The registration process is the same for both ETS and EPS.

There are no discounted rates available for the conference. Registration cannot be processed without payment.

Refunds for cancellations will be available for credit card transactions only. Refunds, less a $15.00 processing fee per registrant, will be granted for cancellations received in writing by March 1, 2017. Refunds cannot be granted for any reason after March 1.
