Gregory Alan Thornbury, Ph.D., serves as the sixth President of The King’s College in New York City. He was appointed to the post in July 2013. The college focuses on the following areas as it seeks to prepare leaders for strategic institutions in society: Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE), Business, Finance, and Media, Culture, and the Arts.
He has been called “Jonathan Edwards Meets the Rolling Stones” by Russell D. Moore and “America’s First Hipster College President” by The American Spectator.
He previously held the post of Professor of Philosophy, Dean of the School of Theology, and Vice President for Spiritual Life at Union University in Tennessee. He is the author of Recovering Classic Evangelicalism: Applying the Wisdom and Vision of Carl F. H. Henry (Crossway, 2013). A Senior Fellow ofThe Kairos Journal, he is the co-author of two other volumes, and author of numerous book chapters, opinion pieces, and critical essays. He addresses a range of subjects, including philosophy, theology, music, spirituality, public thought, and the arts.
A visiting professor of philosophy at Ansgar Teologiske Høgskole in Norway, he has recently lectured at exhibitions and installations on the life and work of artists such as Larry Norman, Carl Perkins, and Daniel Johnston.
In addition to his work as a philosopher and theologian, he is also a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and collaborator. He can be heard playing guitar on the recent Thriftstore Masterpiece record (SideOneDummy, 2013) produced by Charles Normal on the track entitled “Railroad,” featuring Isaac Brook from Modest Mouse.
