Support-Raising Strategy

1.  Set a goal

Know how much you want to raise beforehand and make it your goal to get there.  Below is an example chart of donors who are willing to give $10/mile for your race.  How many $10 donors will it take to reach your goal?

2.  Make a list

Make a list of 5, 10, 15 or more potential donors (friends, family, coworkers, church members) you want to tell about this opportunity to support missions.  Print out the Miles for Missions donation sheet to record donors.

3.  State the cause

Make sure you tell your donors why you are racing.  You might say something like, “I’ll be running in the ______ (5K, 1-mile) race on October 18 to support short-term missions with The Bevin Center at Southern Seminary.  All donations will help fund student scholarships to do service and evangelism in the U.S. and abroad.”

4.  Explain how to donate

Let donors know they can make a per-mile donation for your race, or they can give a flat donation of any desired amount.  They can choose to donate now or you can collect their the donation after the race.

Checks can be made out to “The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary”.

Donations are tax-deductible upon the donor’s request.  They will need to fill out this Donor Form, that you will turn in with your collected pledges on race day, or they may also send it to:

The Bevin Center for Missions Mobilization
Southern Seminary
2825 Lexington Rd
Louisville, KY  40280.

5.  Follow-up

Record the donors’ contact information and the amount they have pledged on the Miles For Missions donation sheet (see link to form above).  Follow up with all donors and make sure all pledges have been collected by Race Day.  Make sure to thank donors for giving generously to the cause!

That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
