Cutting It Straight Expository Preaching Conference (Jacksonville, FL: September 19-21)

The Apostle Paul instructs Timothy, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). The term “rightly dividing” essentially means to “cut it straight.” It was used of a doctor making an incision on a patient for surgery, an architect designing a house, or a construction worker making a straight path or road. Paul would have used it as a tentmaker. But he uses it in 2 Timothy to counsel his ministerial protégé to proclaim the word faithfully and clearly. The goal of the Cutting It Straight conference is to train, model, and promote expository preaching. This is accomplished through plenary lectures from proven preachers, as well as breakout sessions on a host of topics.

The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary will offer conference attendees the opportunity to earn up to 3 hours of academic course credit at the 2017 conference in Jacksonville, FL. Students are required to attend the entirety of the conference from Tuesday, September 19, 2017, through Thursday 21, 2017 (course syllabus forthcoming).

This course will be led by Southern Seminary professor Dr. Michael Pohlman.
