Biblically Guided Worship
October 1-2, 2012
In the ever-changing landscape of culture, music, worship styles and technology, pastors and worship leaders may find it difficult to navigate their way in developing a worship practice and vocabulary that effectively unites multigenerational congregants. Although the worship war issues of the 90’s have somewhat faded, a rapidly changing culture among the most diverse demographic in the history of the church necessitates the consideration and study of core biblical truths in the development of an effective and biblically informed worship theology, philosophy and methodology.
The ancients used the phrase Lex Orandi Lex Credendi Lex Vivendi (the law of prayer – the way we worship –the law of belief – what we believe – the law of life – how we live). Many congregants and worship leaders are unaware of the ultimate impact of the corporate worship gathering. Much is at stake in the way we sculpt, design and lead corporate worship. This alumni academy will be dedicated to the discussion and study of the role and practice of corporate worship based on the unifying Word of God, not only from the theological foundations of worship, but also philosophically and methodologically.
In addition to having Bob Kauflin as our guest lecture on Tuesday afternoon, the sessions will be taught by Joe Crider, Greg Brewton and Chuck Lewis, all of whom serve as faculty members in the new Division of Biblical Worship in the School of Church Ministries at SBTS.
