— Alumni Academy Summer 2012 —

What is the Alumni Academy?

Alumni Academy seeks to offer ministry enhancement and ongoing theological learning to Southern Seminary Alumni. We believe, by God’s grace, a Southern Seminary degree truly equips pastors and ministers to carry out faithful gospel service at the highest level. Still, the need for theological training does not cease with the granting of a diploma. Many pastors and ministers long for a more formal way to stay current on theological issues and keep their minds fresh by means of in-depth study. Conferences often scratch the itch, but nothing is quite the same as the classroom environment where you can read deeply in preparation, listen to top quality lectures, and reestablish your love and knowledge for certain theological subjects.

Alumni Academy is charting a course to meet that need for all Southern Seminary graduates through ongoing theological workshops. Academy classes are the perfect way to refresh from the demands of ministry and return to this unique place of study and fellowship with like-minded gospel ministers. One of the goals is to provide an environment to reconnect with friends and deepen your relationship with conversation partners in ministry. And best of all, its free for alumni of Southern Seminary. We even invite you to bring members of your church staff for a nominal fee should you want to use this learning environment for staff edification and team building.

The course will be May 15-17 and is called “Beholding the Glory of Christ - Eternal Word, Incarnate Son, Exalted Lord.”  We will explore Person of Christ particularly within a Trinitarian context, as the eternal Son of the Father, who came to fulfill the Father’s will in the power of the Spirit.  Seeing more explicitly and clearly Christ’s relationships with the Father and Spirit enhance our understanding and worship of Christ.  Our hope is that Christ will “grow larger” in our estimate, and we, His people, will be led to greater awe, reverence, gratitude, and humble obedience.
